Colin Howard BSc (Hons), MSc, PDipCBP, CPsychol, AFBPsS
Colin Howard is a Consultant Chartered Psychologist, Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, Accredited Psychotherapist, EMDR Europe Accredited Clinical Supervisor/Consultant, and Registered Practising Forensic and Clinical Psychologist. Colin Howard has over twenty-years’ experience in the assessment and treatment of individuals with mental health difficulties in both the public and private sector using a variety of evidence-based psychotherapies. The therapies used are varied and include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, EMDR, Lifespan Integration, the Comprehensive Resource Model, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. The treatment approach used at Howard Psychology is integrative as this allows for each treatment plan to be created to meet the needs of each individual.
Colin Howard has gained significant experience in assessing and treating various dysfunctional attachment styles which have evolved as a coping mechanism to deal with problems related to adverse childhood experiences. He has worked with individuals presenting with complex problems and histories of complex trauma, and has a particular interest in, and experience of, working with complex trauma. Colin Howard has gained expertise in assessing and treating individuals who have been subject to various types of complex psychological trauma including physical, emotional and sexual abuse, parental separation and loss, attachment problems and bereavement.
In addition to his mental health experience Colin Howard has significant experience in providing psychological and risk assessment reports for both Civil and Criminal cases. Colin Howard has expertise in risk assessment and management of violent and sexually violent offenders in the prison environment and in the community.
He holds BSc and MSc degrees in Psychology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy. Colin Howard is registered as a Chartered Forensic Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS), and the Division of Forensic Psychology. He is a Registered Practising Forensic and Clinical Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and as an Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP). Colin Howard is an EMDR Europe Accredited Clinical Supervisor/Consultant. He is also a member of the UK Psychological Trauma Society (UKPTS); has previously been part of the Membership Committee, Research Committee, and a UK Representative of the ESTD (European Society for Trauma and Dissociation).
Colin Howard has held the position of Honorary Lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University, where he lectured on Cognitive Behavioural Interventions for Offenders to students on the Forensic (Legal and Criminological) Psychology Masters course. He has also held a Guest Lecturer post at The University of Abertay Dundee, where he lectured on the Introduction to Psychopathology and Crime to second year undergraduate students.
Colin Howard regularly attends various training events and courses to update his knowledge and continuing professional development in order to maintain his status as a chartered psychologist.
